Call For Special Issue

The International Review of Public Policy invites prospective authors and guest editors to propose a Special Issue.

The proposal should be geared towards the aims and objectives of the journal, and obviously, deal with public policy research. The journal contributes to the development of theories of the policy process, empirical tests, and applications of theoretical models, the study of the policy process, the analysis of key stages of the decision and implementation process, research on evaluation and appraisal methods and theories, critical policy analysis. We publish both comparative and single-case studies, drawing on a variety of conceptual frameworks. The IRPP does not discriminate against any ontological presupposition.

Methodologically, our journal is open to experiments, statistical/econometric, qualitative, and interpretive methods, as well as to mixed methods. An important objective of the journal is to publish state-of-the-art social science research that makes a broad range of findings available to policy-makers, civil society organizations, pressure groups, and citizens concerned about policy issues. Thus, if you think that the proposal has this added value, you should flag this up in your proposal.

All proposals will be reviewed by the Editorial Board with the assistance of members of the Scientific Committee.

Submissions for Special Issues

The International Review of Public Policy welcomes proposals for special issues of the journal. While we are open to proposals in any area of public policy research, we are especially interested in proposals that address innovative approaches (theoretical, methodological, ontological) to public policy and/or address lesser-known areas of research (substantive or geographical).

A preliminary proposal should include:

1. Name(s) of guest editor(s)

2. Title of Special Issue

3. Brief description of the content of the issue

4. Names of prospective authors with short descriptions of papers

5. Expected delivery date

6. Any other pertinent details.

Peer Review Policy: International Review of Public Policy is a peer-reviewed journal (double-blind).
Publication: IRPP is fully open-access. We have plenty of opportunities to provide data for replications and online appendixes.
Organization of the review process: Upon acceptance of the proposal, IRPP will nominate a member of the Editorial Board to accompany the guest editor(s) in the process. The guest editor(s) will propose a list of reviewers to the member of the Editorial Board in charge of the Special Issue. The member of the Editorial Board will be in charge of contacting at least two external referees per article, drawing on the list suggested by the guest editors, but also, when necessary, upon her/his own initiative. The IRPP Office will manage the review process from our platform and liaise with the guest editor(s) and the member of the Editorial Board. All decisions on acceptance of the manuscripts will be taken by the guest editor(s) and one member of the Editorial Board, who will provide advice and suggestions at key stages. The guest editor(s) and authors will be expected to check proofs.
Publishing: The guest editor(s) ensure that the authors use the correct style, following our regular submission guidelines.
